Party Town
I arrived here in Airlie beach o the 24 nov, flying up from Sydney. I caught up with Phil who had been here for maybe a week before me. Airlie is basically one street full of bars and clubs, its got that on holiday feeling to it. Its like Ibiza everybody here is just up for good nite, every nite. Me and Phil have going out alot like three times a week, and its not cheap. Its cheaper than Sydney but still not that cheap.
I booked into a hostel called Magnums, well i say hostel its more of a hoilday resort, there is big dorm rooms, small cabins, and even twin rooms, there is loads of fast food places on site aswell as a popular bar and nite club, there is also a volleyball court, which is pretty cool. I stayed in the big dorm rooms, sleeps ten. I decided to stay here because its cheap ($16) a nite about 5 or 6 quid, and also you get to meet so many different people from so many different countrys.
I am working two jobs at the moment one is on a construction site 6:30 till 3. Then i work at a noodle bar 6 till 10. Its a long day like but, you got to pay the bills, and the beer tab, which i would say takes up most of my pay. Me and phil have had some wkd nites out, got very drunk and sometimes we stayed at that late, that when i get in i have to get changed have a showre and go to work. Its pretty full on.
During the time i have been here i have been across to the whitsunday islands, about a hour boat trip. Whitehaven Beach is the 3rd best beach in the world and is the 5th most photographed attraction in OZ.If you look at the pics then you can see why its beautiful. The beach dosent actully have sand on it, its called silica. This is from when the earths plates move and rub together, causing friction. The silica is wot is produced. Its really fine and soft, and is really white. Thats why on the photos they are a bit blurred.
I have also been out to the Great Barrier Reef, where i did my first dive. A inductory dive. We started the day with a talk about the dive and also the apparatus we would be using. Once we reached the Reef we got strapped up with the tanks then got into the water. I spent about 10 to 15 minutes going through some basic manouvers, clearing your mask under water, wot to do if my air stops, signs that we would use under water things like that. Then we followed the instructer down to the reef ,we where aloud to stay down for half an hour, it went really quick. The fish and the reefs where unbelievable, so many different colours shapes and sizes, it was like a rainbow under water, a different world. It was just like you would see on the tv, I managed to follow a turtle for a while, which was pretty cool.I really enjoyed the dive and would definetly think of doing it again. Everybody should do it at least once in there lifetime.
Me and Phil have moved into a apartment with one of the guys from reef jet, the boat that Phil works on during the day. Its alot better than the hostels and there is plenty of room to chill out. Its christmas eve today and we are getting ready for ta massive party which we are having at the apartment. We spent like £250 on beer and food for the big day, Phil is cooking a big meal pork, beef and lamb. hhhhhmmm. We have got people coming from where we work so its going to be big.
Workwise i have two jobs, one is on a consruction site 6;30 till 3, This is just labouring, but its pretty hard because im outdoors all day, it can reach up 35/40 degrees. I also work at a noodle bar, called "off ya noodle". I work there from 6 till 10 every nite, its not hard work i just do it for the extra cash, it normally pays for the beer. Plus its a pretty cool place to work, the guys are all fun to work with. Plus i get free food and drinks whenever i wont it.Cant complain.
Check out some of the pics, there class, hope they dont make any of you jealous.I will update the blog again soon after crimbo and new year, im sure ill get some good pics from them.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.
